Necmettin Erbakan University, though established in 2010, is privileged of housing the three oldest higher educational institutions in Konya:

  1. Ahmet Kelesoglu Faculty of Education (in operation for 50 years),
  2. The Faculty of Theology (celebrating its 50th anniversary),
  3. and Meram Faculty of Education (in service since 1972).

The university provides ample learning, teaching, and research opportunities for both students and academics and also offers a full range of degrees in the areas of humanities, social, health, education, and engineering sciences.

In addition to its main Campus at the city center and the other buildings scattered around the city, the university has also two more premises located in the towns of Eregli and Seydisehir. The main campus, situated on a hilltop in Meram, the most pleasant greenery district of Konya, overlooks the whole city with an exceptionally beautiful view. All the campuses furnish all kinds of services and facilities for students and staff.

Konya Necmettin Erbakan University (NEU), embodying one of the oldest educational faculties in the country, holds proven expertise in the teacher education context. With its professional development activities and pedagogical courses offered to K12 teachers, the English Language Teaching (ELT) Program of NEU offers service not only student to teachers in the faculty but also to in-service language teachers working in state and private schools. The university addresses the needs of the stakeholders such as the directorate of national education, municipalities, NGOs, science centers, and associations via many bilateral agreements and contracts. As a higher institution, it has initiated a considerable amount of educational activities to disseminate its contemporary research and practice in the local, national, and international contexts. NEU provides guidance and counseling services in various projects.

To implement the activities, the university cooperates with organizations and institutions at the local, regional, or national level. NEU hosts several face-to-face and virtual national and international conferences that can be great opportunities to disseminate the outputs of the project. NEU provides ample learning, teaching, and research opportunities for both students and academics. It also offers a full range of degrees in the areas of humanities, social, health, education, and engineering sciences.

The total number of students enrolled for BA, MA and Ph.D. degrees at our university is 35.171. NEU also has 1,909 lecturers and 1,149 administrative staff.

Key staff:

Dr. CEMİLE DOĞAN

has been working in the field of language education for more than 20 years. She holds her MA in English Language Teaching. During her Ph.D., she focused mainly on continuous professional development for language teachers and she conducted several long and short-term professional development studies for language educators in collaboration with the other universities in and out of the institution. She has profound experience especially as a trainer, lecturer, and researcher in various universities. She worked as a visiting researcher in the Netherlands and Erasmus coordinator of the department for students and the academic staff. She has presented in many international conferences in and outside the country, attended a large number of pieces of training on language teaching, professional development of language teachers, participated in exchange scholar programs, worked as a trainer in Erasmus programs, published international and national articles and book chapters. She participated in an Erasmus Project for the Employment of the Disabled as a trainer to their employers.

The courses she offered at the faculty include

Drama and Language teaching,

teaching four language skills,

Research methods,

World Englishness and Culture,

Measurement, and Evaluation in Language teaching.

She collaborated with K12 teachers, predominantly primary and secondary level teachers for local projects. In these projects, she brought student teachers with A1, A2, and B1 level in-service language teachers to prepare, conduct, and evaluate drama activities in their school contexts.

Dr. FAHRETTİN ŞANAL

is an Assistant Professor and started teaching at this department as an instructor in 1980. He did his Dip. TEFL study at the University of Reading, Reading/England in 1990. As a teacher trainer, he has been teaching Speaking and Teaching Language Skills in which he trains student teachers to teach language skills, especially to young learners. He has organized several international conferences on language learning and teaching research.
